One of our technicians arrived for a scheduled and confirmed maintenance inspection. Everything was going according to plan.
He knocked on the door.
No answer.
He called the resident.
The technician could clearly hear the resident's phone ringing... inside the home.
A few moments later, he also heard footsteps moving around the unit.
Then the resident answered the phone.
Resident: "Hello?"
Technician: "Hi! I'm here for your scheduled inspection."
Resident: "Oh... I'm not home right now."
Meanwhile, standing on the porch, our technician was listening to:
- The phone ringing inside the house.
- Footsteps pacing around the house.
- What sounded like a cabinet door opening.
- The resident actively talking to him from inside the house.
For a brief moment, we considered the possibility that the home was haunted and the resident was calling from another dimension. Unfortunately, further investigation confirmed there were no paranormal activities occurring—just an Olympic-level commitment to avoiding a maintenance inspection.
The inspection was ultimately rescheduled, but we still have questions:
- If you're not home, who answered the phone?
- If you're not home, whose footsteps were we hearing?
- If you're not home, why did the phone sound like it was six feet behind the front door?
To this day, this remains one of PropM's most convincing cases of a resident attempting to become invisible while standing inside their own home.
Lesson Learned: If you're going to pretend you're not home, make sure your phone isn't ringing inside the unit while you're pacing past the front door.
